Photo Exhibition Hijras of Mumbai

From May 18 - 28 at the Lloyd Hotel. Daily open. Free admission. The exhibition is prolonged till June 11

Anita Khemka (New Delhi, 1972) has worked as a documentary photographer for organisations like Unicef and UNAIDS with a focus on the position of women and sexual minorities in India. Khemka's photographs are rooted in her experience as a woman, and her interest in how sex occupies a major part of people's lives. Khemka is drawn to eunuchs and prostitutes whom she follows for years to film these intimate portraits. At the invitation by the Cultural Embassy and hosted at the Lloyd Hotel, the festival will show a series of photographs that Anita Khemka made during the shooting of the Thomas Wartman's documentary Between the Lines. India's Third Gender (screened on Thursday May 24 at 8pm).
Lloyd Hotel, Oostelijke Handelskade 34 in Amsterdam. Open daily. Free admission.

Official opening of the photo exhibition on Monday, May 21 at 9pm during 'Lloyd Time on Mondays' at the Lloyd Hotel. Anita Khemka will give a presentation on her work. She will be joined by Laxmi Narayan Tripathi, one of the hijras that is portrayed in the documentary and on photographs.
