Jupit (Haircut)
The term gay in Philippines' culture has a broader meaning which includes transgressive gender expressions. Jupit (Filipino gay lingo for haircut) is a light-hearted film set in and around a beauty parlour owned by the transvestite Tetay. Filmed in the style of a soap, the film tells the story of Tetay and her assistants. But Tetay is not free from worries: she is involved in a troublesome relation with a married man and she has problems with her family. All seems to brighten up when handsome Glen moves in next door. The charm of this owes much to the famous gay figure Ate Gay, while the ensemble cast also contributes to the film's touching moments of solidarity within the gay/ trans community.
